This photo is actually in Montana. Others are in Wyoming.
Yellowstone is an area of contrasts. You have the geysers and hot springs and you have the canyons.
I suggest that one takes a day to tour the northern loop, then a day to tour the southern loop. Then you should spensd a day in the Old Faithful area cheking out the geysers. Another day could be spent in the canyon area. be sure to take the side roads such as the Fire Hole Canyon and Fire Hole Lake roads. You have a better chance of seeing wildlife early in the morning. Don't count on seeing bears as they don't let you hike in the bear areas most of the years and the bears sem to avoid the people areas. Perhaps if you camped, you might have a better shot at seeing them. A co-worker took a boat trip when she was here from Yellowstone to the Grand Tetons. It would probably take you longer to see the park if you don't travel alone. Traveling alone is always faster as there is no debate as to what to do next or where to eat. So, you may want to plan a week in the area.
My motel was in a valley between mountain ranges similiar to the Shenandoah Valley. A lot of places reminded me of that area.
